$30,000 Innovation Connect Grant awarded to Canberra Dynamics
9 December 2024

Canberra Dynamics is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a $30,000 Innovation Connect (ICON) Grant from the Canberra Innovation Network. This funding will support the development of LYREBIRD-C, a civilian version of our advanced electromagnetic tactical multi-tool for defence applications, LYREBIRD.
Conventional anti-drone systems rely on high-power radiofrequency jamming, which can interfere with critical communication channels and nearby electronic systems. In high-stakes situations where seconds matter, this interference can put security services and emergency responders at significant risk.
Our flagship defence system, LYREBIRD, takes a different approach. We are developing a small-form factor device that provides multi-tool functionality to emergency responders and security forces without the use of jamming. LYREBIRD-C, the civilian variant of this system, can detect, locate, and counter illegal drones while keeping vital communication channels clear and nearby electronic systems functioning normally.
This capability is crucial for protecting sensitive sites and ensuring public safety in various scenarios, including airports, correctional facilities, power plants and other critical infrastructure, large public gatherings such as festivals, concerts, or sports matches, and emergency aviation operations like aerial firefighting or medevac missions. In these situations, the continued operation of critical systems can mean the difference between life and death, and interference from jamming cannot be risked.
The ICON grant, provided with the support of the Canberra Innovation Network, is a vital stepping stone in bringing our cutting-edge defence technology to trained civilian users, such as police, licensed security staff, and emergency services personnel. This funding will enable us to conduct laboratory validation of LYREBIRD-C and advance the technology towards field trials.
By supporting the development of LYREBIRD-C and the accompanying PugglOS software platform, the Canberra Innovation Network is helping to make this innovative technology more accessible, ultimately enhancing public safety and security.
